Multicultural Programs

Student Life Multicultural Student Involvement is part of a compendium of units at Rutgers dedicated to addressing the needs and concerns of students from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, various religious backgrounds, and variances in sexual orientation. Multicultural Student Involvement supports the university's commitment to diversity, involvement, and equity and assists in the development of multicultural understanding and appreciation.

Located in Room 212 of the Douglass Campus Center on the Douglass Campus, the Student Life Multicultural Student Involvement works in collaboration with the various cultural centers (Paul Robeson Cultural Center on the Busch Campus, Asian American Cultural Center on the Livingston Campus, and Center for Latino Arts and Culture on the College Avenue Campus), multicultural student clubs and organizations, LGBT student organizations, cultural umbrella student organizations (Asian Student Council, Latino Student Council, and United Black Council), as well as such units as the Office of Social Justice Education , Committee to Advance Our Common Purposes, the Bias Prevention Education Committee, Queer Caucus, LGBTQ Task Force, and the various relevant academic departments and centers at the university. In addition, Multicultural Student Involvement coordinates the various cultural celebrations of the university, including the annual Celebration of Lights holiday calendar in December, Black History Month calendar in February, and Women's History Month calendar in March.

The Multicultural Student Involvement also develops leadership initiatives for students, student organizations, and fraternities and sororities of color. These include a new Academic Success for Students of Color series in collaboration with the Office of Undergraduate Education, the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs, and the Asian American Cultural Center, Center for Latino Arts and Culture, and Paul Robeson Cultural Center; a Professional Development for Students of Color series in collaboration with the Department of Career Services Diversity Team; a Jersey Roots, Global Reach Cultural Tour series; an HIV/AIDS Awareness education series; and annual leadership conferences for the Asian, Black, Latino, and LGBTQ student organizations.
