Organization Categories
The officially registered Rutgers University student organizations fall under several categories, each listed below with a detailed description.

Organization Categories
Academic: An organization that encourages scholarly learning outside the classroom. It may or may not be related to a university academic program or affiliated with a non-university scholarly organization.
Community Service: An organization that looks to benefit a community or organization through volunteered services.
Cultural: A racial, ethnic or social group with a shared set of attitudes, customary beliefs, values, goals, and practices.
Honorary: An organization that seeks to recognize students who excel academically. Membership in the group is often based on GPA.
Leisure: An organization whose purpose is to provide freedom from time-consuming duties, responsibilities, or academics.
Media: An organization that exists in order to provide information related to their purpose through means of mass communication, such as newspapers, magazines, radio, or television.
Performing Arts: An organization that would perform in front of an audience in an artistic format such as dance, drama, and/or music.
Religious: Organizations that have or show belief in and reverence for God or a deity and/or are upholding the principles of a particular religion.
Religious Cultural: An organization whose purpose is interwoven with both aspects of a Cultural and Religious Organization.
Social Action/Political: A Social Action student organization usually exists to encourage some sort of socioeconomic reform. A Political student organization relates to or deals with the structure or affairs of government, politics, or the state; and/or is influenced by partisan interests. These organizations may or may not overlap.
Rutgers University Student Assembly; Allocations Board: The Rutgers University Student Assembly, R.U.S.A., in conjunction with the Campus Councils, seeks to provide University-wide advocacy on student concerns and effectively disperse the student activity fee. Their goal is to provide maximal opportunity for student leadership, provide localized student representation, and encourage a vibrant campus life.
