National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC)

NPHC is the governing body of 8 historically African-American fraternities & sororities at Rutgers University. The NPHC coordinates educational and service programming for the member chapters.

Purpose

The purpose of the National Pan-Hellenic Council shall be the pursuit of the following objectives:

• To serve as the governing body for all Historically Black Greek letter organizations approved for membership by Rutgers University
• To cultivate and maintain the high ideals of each individual member chapter as well as the educational mission of Rutgers University
• To maintain on the highest level, all fraternity and sorority life relationships.
• To engage in service activities, which serve both the university and surrounding communities
• To serve as the standard setting and implementing body for the affiliate organizations in the area of membership intake process
• To correlate programs and activities designed to help to meet the needs of member organizations

Membership

Membership in the National Pan-Hellenic Council shall be determined via the OFSA Recognition Policy.

Officers & Representation

The Council is lead by Executive Board Officers who serve one-year terms. Officers are elected by delegates from the Council's member organizations. Delegates are selected by their organizations and also serve one-year terms.

Intake/Recruitment

Men and women interested in joining an NPHC organization must meet the following minimum eligibility requirements for membership:

• Be enrolled as a full-time student (at least 12 credits)
• Completed 12 credits while enrolled at RU or another institution
• Earn a 2.25 cumulative GPA and at least a 2.0 from the previous semester

Note: Every NPHC organization has higher academic requirements. Specific eligibility information is shared with prospective members at fraternity/sorority Information Sessions, which are held throughout the academic year.

Meetings & Voting

Attendance at NPHC meetings is required for all member organizations. In addition to the regularly scheduled meetings, the President may call Special meetings at the request of a member organization or as necessary.
