Leadership & Training
What is Leadership & Training?
The goal of the Rutgers University Student Life Leadership & Training team is to design experiential programs and trainings in an effort to provoke thought and inspire action among our student leaders, staff, and the University community. Through a series of curricular and co-curricular skill building opportunities, we aim to help students develop the values, knowledge, confidence, critical thinking and interpersonal skills necessary to become innovative thinkers, engaged citizens, and responsible leaders.
The curriculum offered through Student Life Leadership & Training equips students with opportunities to acquire and implement leadership skills to enhance professional competence while showcasing achievements that can lead to career, service, or leadership advancement. Through leadership training, our team prepares students to serve in significant campus and community leadership roles. Leadership development encompasses a broad range of activities (both current and prospective), so we offer foundational programs that are tiered experiences targeting students at varying stages of their collegiate and personal development. These co-curricular curriculums will aide participants in articulating their own leadership identity and philosophy, understanding their leadership style and values, and supporting students as they navigate transitional issues when they prepare for post-graduate life. In addition to our 4-year curriculum (more info can be found on that curriculum in the menu tabs), the Leadership & Training team through Student Life offers a broad variety of other experiential leadership opportunities including Internships, Peer Mentor opportunities, a-la-carte trainings for various constituents around campus and the community, the Mark Conference, Camp UKnight retreats, campus-wide programming like Leadership & Social Media Week, and a leadership-focused Alternate Break Immersion Experience.
Focusing on personal development, versatility, sense of purpose, citizenship, and professional competency-building, we empower students to take control of their own leadership journey, and expect them to share their discoveries and continue to involve and challenge their peers along the way, always lifting others while they lead.
