Registration Requirements for a New Student Organization
There are several requirements for being recognized as a registered student organization at Rutgers University.
Student organizations must have a clearly defined purpose that does not duplicate the purpose of an existing organization.
Student organizations will self-select which category of student organization they fall under. The categories are: Academic, Community Service, Cultural, Honorary, Leisure, Media, Performing Arts, Social Action/Political, Religious and Religious Cultural. Descriptions of each category are available online.
All student organizations are required to have a minimum of 3 officers. All officers must be undergraduate students registered at Rutgers University- New Brunswick/Piscataway or one of the professional schools located on the New Brunswick/Piscataway campus with a minimum GPA of 2.0.
A minimum of 10 undergraduate student members registered throughout Rutgers University, New Brunswick/Piscataway campus are required.
All organizations must provide Rutgers Student Life with a constitution. If you are registering with this system for the first time, you will be instructed as to how to submit the constitution. If you have used this online system before, you were notified as to whether or not you need to turn in a constitution. Student organizations will be required to update their constitution every three years. Your organization would be notified by our department if it is your year to update.
Student organizations must develop a working relationship with their Administrative Advisor who will assist with program planning and navigating the policies and procedures of being a student organization at Rutgers University. The Administrative Advisor is assigned to organizations once they become provisional or registered.
Student Organization officers are required to attend a New Student Organization workshop scheduled by Rutgers Student Life. This meeting is designed to get student organizations going and on the right path to becoming a successful student organization. In addition, this meeting is mandatory for all new student organization in order to become fully registered. This will take place in the Fall.
Upon completion of the online registration, be sure to check your eden account as a signature form and membership roster will be e-mailed to you. The signature form must be filled out and submitted to Student Involvement in order to complete the registration process. The signature form requires the Primary Officer, Treasurer, and Faculty/Staff advisor to sign it. The membership list must be submitted to any Rutgers Student Life Office as well.
Student organization officers will be notified of their organization’s registration status (Provisional, Pending, Registered, Not Registered) by email to their eden email addresses in August.
