| Please Note: You will notice frequent revisions to Rutgers websites as the university's transformation of undergraduate education progresses at the New Brunswick campuses. |
1. Where can a parking permit be purchased and how much will it cost?
Parking permits can be purchased online at http://parktran.rutgers.edu/studentpark.shtml. You can also visit the Department of Transportation Services, which is located on the corner of Commercial Avenue and George Street (across from the Exxon gas station) near the Douglass Campus. The cost for a parking pass is $160.50 annually.
2. Can students use the same parking permit on more than one car?
Registrants may register as many additional vehicles as needed (at a reduced rate) and will be given a window sticker for each vehicle, but only one hangtag. The hangtag must be transferred to whichever vehicle will be used on campus that day. Both the hangtag and window sticker must be displayed on the vehicle.
3. What parking lots can commuters use?
Assigned commuter parking lots are as follows:
4. For what violations can students be ticketed?
Parking regulations on the New Brunswick campuses are enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the entire year. Enforcement by ticketing and towing is constant. Enforcement in problem areas is especially rigorous. To view violation descriptions and fine costs, visit http://parktran.rutgers.edu/tickets.shtml and scroll to the bottom to view the list of “Parking Ticket Offense Codes and Fines.”
5. Can a ticket be appealed?
Tickets may be appealed within ten days of the date the ticket was issued. After ten days, the right to appeal is lost and the violator is responsible for all fines associated with the ticket. Towing tickets may not be appealed. All appeals must be submitted in writing on an official appeal form, which is available online or at the Office of Parking and Transportation Services. For information regarding appeals, visit http://parktran.rutgers.edu/tickets.shtml and scroll down to the “Ticket Appeal Form.”
6. Where can I go to study and relax in between my classes?
Meeting the needs and concerns of all Rutgers University commuter students is important. To that end, there are several spaces across the campuses for commuters to study and take advantage of "down time" between classes:
7. Do I have to get a meningitis vaccination if I am a commuter?
All incoming Rutgers University students are required by state law and university regulations to provide the university with a Pre-Entrance Immunization Record signed by their health care provider by July 15th. The Pre-Entrance Immunization Record must document that you have had all required immunizations. All incoming students are mailed a Pre-Entrance Immunization Record.
8. Who helps students with physical and learning disabilities?
Students with disabilities include individuals with visual, hearing, or mobility impairments, learning disabilities, ADD or ADHD, emotional/psychological problems, or chronic illnesses. For specific parking policies and procedures, visit the Department of Transportation Services’ website at http://parktran.rutgers.edu/disability.shtml.The university’s Disability Support Services website is http://disabilityservices.rutgers.edu.
9. I am having academic difficulties. How can I receive help?
If you are experiencing academic difficulties, it is highly suggested that you speak to a Commuter Peer Advisor (CPA). CPAs represent a diverse group of undergraduate commuter students who serve as academic role models and strive to enhance the overall academic experience of new commuters so they can have a smooth and successful transition to college life at Rutgers. This is achieved by providing information about on-campus resources, coordinating academic-based programs in the various student centers, and serving as mentors/advisees to a group of pre-assigned students for the academic year.
10. What if I want to speak to a “live person” concerning my issues as a commuter student?
Several staff members within the university’s Department of Student Affairs have been appointed to assist with commuter student issues. To set up an appointment to speak to someone, you may contact Cheryl Wilson on the College Avenue Campus at
or Sue Romano on the Busch Campus at
.
